DANBURY, Conn. – William Paterson women's basketball head coach
Erin Monahan and senior
Renee Wells (Leonardo, N.J./Middletown South) both earned Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) honors March 18.
Erin Monahan: ECAC Coach of the Year
Monahan was named the ECAC Coach of the Year for the first time in her career after guiding WP to one of its most historic seasons in program history as the Pioneers finished 25-3 overall and 18-0 in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action. She helped WP break the program record for the most single-season conference wins and tie the program record for regular-season victories (24). WP captured its first regular-season title since the 2011-12 campaign, when the NJAC was split between the north and south divisions, and the first with full conference membership since the 1997-98 campaign. Under Monahan's leadership, the Pioneers made the NJAC Tournament title game for the first time since the 2013-14 season and earned their first NCAA Tournament bid since the 2012-13 campaign.
Renee Wells (Leonardo, N.J./Middletown South): All-ECAC First Team
Wells was named to the All-ECAC First Team after starting all 27 games, averaging a team-best 17.2 points per tilt with 5.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.0 steals per contest. She posted double-digit points in 25 of 27 games, including eight 20+ scoring performances and one 30+ scoring outing, while recording two double-doubles. She ranked second in the NJAC and first on the team in points per game, additionally finishing second in the conference in free-throw shooting (.814), fourth in field goal percentage (.403), tied for fifth in steals per game and tied for eighth in assists per contest.
