WAYNE, N.J. -- William Paterson women's basketball seniors Elisa Brown (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) and Julie Haledjian (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills) presented at the 2010 New Jersey Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (NJAHPERD) Convention.
Both physical education majors at William Paterson, Brown and Haledjian were among a small number of students selected by professor Dr. Amy Rady to teach an activity at the convention, and the pair of Pioneer guards taught "Urban Basketball" for approximately 60 people.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Volleyball senior middle hitter Kelly Helfrich (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) was the recipient of William Paterson University's Outstanding Athlete Award at New Jersey's 18th-annual award luncheon in celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The luncheon, which was held Feb. 7 at Seton Hall University, honored student-athletes at Garden State colleges and universities.

MONTCLAIR, N.J. -- The William Paterson women's swimming and diving team (9-5, 0-4 NJAC) fell in its final dual meet of the season, losing 161-119 at Montclair State (5-5, 2-2 NJAC) Feb. 6. Sophomore Brett Kuchin (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) posted wins in the 100 (1:11.75) and 200 (2:38.25) breasts. Senior Giana Albruzzese (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) finished first in the one-meter required (144.60) dive.

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The William Paterson men’s swimming and diving team (7-5, 0-4 NJAC) concluded its dual-meet season with a 179-119 loss at Montclair State (6-5, 1-3 NJAC) Feb. 6.
Senior Voyta Karas (Brno, Czech Republic) was a triple winner, touching first in the 50 (22.66), 100 (49.40) and 200 (1:50.68) frees. Junior Andrew Scimeca (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton) finished first in the one-meter required (137.85) and optional (202.20) dives.

WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson senior Joseph Ellis (Newark, N.J./Newark Science) was named the NJHoops.com Division III January Player of the Month, the group announced Feb. 3. Ellis, a 6-1 guard, averaged a team-best 16.4 points per game as the Pioneers were a perfect 9-0 during the month, adding 3.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.3 steals per contest.

WAYNE, N.J. – No. 13 William Paterson (21-1, 10-0 NJAC) secured the top seed in the upcoming New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Men’s Basketball Tournament with a 72-65 victory against visiting Ramapo (15-6, 6-4 NJAC) Feb. 3. Junior Gabriel Paul (Hillside, N.J./Hillside) scored a career-high 25 points and senior Joseph Ellis (Newark, N.J./Newark Science) added 24 to help lead the Pioneers to their school-record 19th consecutive victory.

WAYNE, N.J. – Sophomore BriAnna Lucas (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) scored 21 points to lead four Pioneers in double figures as No. 7/8 William Paterson (21-1, 9-1 NJAC) pulled away from Ramapo (8-13, 2-8 NJAC) for a 67-50 victory on Feb. 3.
Walking into the locker room at the half with a four-point lead (28-24), it was a second-half explosion that propelled William Paterson to the win. The Pioneers came out in the second half with a hot hand, shooting 42.9 (12-28)percent from the field. William Paterson went on a 12-4 run to start the second half, giving the Pioneers a 12-point advantage (40-28) with 13:33 remaining in the game.

MAHWAH, N.J. – The William Paterson men’s swimming and diving team (7-4, 0-3 NJAC) lost to host Ramapo (7-2, 2-2 NJAC), 179-83, on Feb. 2. Senior Voyta Karas (Brno, Czech Republic) won the 200 free (1:49.74) and touched second in the 50 free (23.12).

Men's Basketball
WAYNE, N.J. – Men’s basketball junior guard Gabriel Paul (Hillside, N.J./Hillside) was named the William Paterson Pioneer of the Week Feb. 8.
Paul led all scorers with a career-high 25 points during a 72-65 win against Ramapo Feb. 3, adding five rebounds and four assists against the Roadrunners. The victory, the 19th straight for William Paterson, clinched the overall top seed, and with it a first-round bye, for the upcoming NJAC Tournament. Paul was 7-for-10 for 15 points during the first half, and scored five points during a 9-1 run that helped put the game away late, giving WP a 69-59 edge with 52 seconds left.
