Men's Swimming and Diving Starts the Season with a 119-81 Triumph Over Visiting Western Connecticut

WP Placed First in Four Individual Races and Two Relays

Senior Eamon Logue was a double winner in the meet, touching first in the 50 free and the 100 free,
WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's swimming and diving team (1-0) took home four individual races and two relays to post a 119-81 victory against visiting Western Connecticut (0-1) in its season opener and Breast Cancer Awareness meet at Wightman Pool Oct. 12.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior Eamon Logue (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Twp.) was a double winner by placing first in the 50 free (23.37) and the 100 free (52.18).
  • Classmate Jimmy Sharkey (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) recorded an individual victory in the 500 free with a time of 5:21.32.
  • Also worth noting, junior Bradley Belina (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) touched the wall first in the 1000 free (11:27.20) to add to the Pioneer score.
  • The 200 medley relay notched top points with a time of 1:56.79.  The relay consisted of junior Thomas Haughey (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) (30.26), sophomore William Pike (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) (34.28), junior Jonathan Vela (Prospect Park, N.J./Passaic County Tech) (26.94), and classmate Honacy Beco, Jr. (25.31).
  • The Pioneers finished the meet on a high note.  Freshman Jason Peralta (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) (30.59), Belina (26.11), Sharkey (24.79) and Logue (22.83) combined for a 1:44.32 first place finish in the 200 free relay.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Sharkey came in second in the 200 free (1:55.65) after being narrowly out touched by a Western Connecticut swimmer. 
  • This is the seventh straight year that WP has won its season opener. 
 
UP NEXT:
  • The Pioneers host Old Westbury on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 6:00 p.m.
