Men’s Soccer Garners ECAC Tournament Bid, Opens Play Saturday Neumann

Pioneers are Fourth Seed in Pod 2


ECAC Tournament Central 

DANBURY, CONN. – The fourth-seeded William Paterson men's soccer team (12-7-1, 4-5 NJAC) will travel to top-seeded Neumann (11-4-2, 5-0-1 Atlantic East) for an ECAC Tournament Pod 2 first-round matchup Saturday, Nov. 10, at 11:00 a.m. Live statistics and live video of the game will be available. In the other first-round game, second-seeded Rutgers-Camden (13-5-2, 6-2-1 NJAC) will face third-seeded Hood (8-7-1, 2-6 MAC Commonwealth) Nov. 10 at 2:00 p.m.
 
WHERE:  
WHAT'S ON THE LINE:
  • The two teams that advance out of the first-round matches will meet in the quarterfinal round Sunday, Nov. 11, at 12:00 p.m. at Neumann. The semifinals and final will be conducted Nov. 17-18 at a site to be determined.
 
WP IN THE ECAC TOURNAMENT:
  • This is the 16th time that WP will appear in the ECAC Tournament, including six of the last seven years (1972, 1974, 1977, 1978, 1981, 1984, 1991, 1995, 2002, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018).
  • The Pioneers have their sights set on winning their second ECAC title in program history after claiming the Metro Region crown in 2008.
  • A year ago, William Paterson was the No. 2 overall seed and hosted an opening-weekend pod. The Pioneers defeated Brooklyn, 4-0, during the first round Nov. 11. After a 2-2 draw through two overtimes against NYU in the quarterfinals Nov. 12, the Violets advanced on penalty kicks, 4-1.
 
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS:
  • William Paterson is coming off a 2-1 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament semifinal loss at second-seeded Ramapo (15-2-2, 6-2-1 NJAC) Oct. 30. The Pioneers finished tied for sixth in the league standings.
  • Junior midfielder Cameron Allen (Old Bridge, N.J./Saint John Vianney) was named to the All-NJAC First Team for the second straight year, starting in 19 of the Pioneers' 20 contests and pacing the team in goals (seven), assists (six, tied-sixth in league) and points (20). His three game-winning goals this fall are tied for the sixth-best total in the conference.
  • Senior forward Brandon Harley (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) owns 13 points (6 g, 1 a). Junior forward Keysean Brant-Sharp (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick), who earned his third all-conference accolade (2016 and 2018 All-NJAC Honorable Mentions, 2017 All-NJAC Second Team), has contributed four goals and four assists for 12 points.
  • A member of the 2016 All-NJAC Honorable Mention, the 2017 All-NJAC Second Team and the 2018 All-NJAC First Team, senior back Zach Perez (Edison, N.J./Rutgers Prep) has collected two assists while starting 17 contests this fall on the back line, helping WP record four shutouts defensively.
  • A first-year Pioneer after transferring to William Paterson, junior midfielder Jordan Saling (Haledon, N.J./Paramus Catholic) was a second-team all-league pick and has started all 20 matches, posting 10 points (4 g, 2 a). Senior back Ryan Bartel (Emerson, N.J./Emerson) earned his first all-NJAC accolade (honorable mention) after starting 19 of 20 matches for WP this fall, helping the Pioneers register four shutouts defensively.
  • Junior Kyle Quigley (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional) has compiled a 1.60 goals-against average, .721 save percentage and two shutouts while starting 16 matches in goal. His 199 career saves are the most in Pioneer history.
 
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS:
  • Neumann is 11-4-2 overall and 5-0-1 in the Atlantic East Conference, taking home the league's tournament title with a 3-1 victory against Cabrini (11-7-1, 5-1 AEC) Nov. 3.
  • Sophomore midfielder Marlon Trejo paces the Knights with seven goals and 18 points, and freshman forward Gavin Ford owns six goals, 17 points and a team-best five assists.
  • Senior Shane Smith has recorded a 0.93 goals-against average and .821 save percentage, registering five shutouts in 16 starts.
