Pioneers Advance to ECAC Men’s Soccer Tournament Quarterfinals with 4-1 Triumph

MADISON, N.J. – Second-seeded William Paterson's (9-8-3) offense exploded during the second half for a 4-1 victory against third-seeded SUNY Maritime (8-6-3) Nov. 15 during the ECAC Men's Soccer Tournament Pod 2 first round at FDU-Florham.
 
The Pioneers advance to face host and top-seeded FDU-Florham (11-3-5) in the quarterfinal round Sunday, Nov. 16, at 1:00 p.m.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • All of the scoring came during the second half, starting with a strike off the bounce from sophomore midfielder Davide Zamuner (Piverone, Italy/Liceo Scientifico Statale A. Gramsci) in the 50th minute.
  • Sophomore forward Vincent Richard (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington) made it a 2-0 game at the 65:03 mark, finishing a ball from senior midfielder Matty Escobar (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) to the lower-right portion of the frame.
  • Freshman midfielder Kai David's (Jersey City, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) first career goal extended it to a 3-0 margin in the 78th minute.
  • The Privateers found the back of the net two minutes later.
  • Junior back Jaden Blount (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) notched his first goal of the season with an unassisted score with 3:40 remaining.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Senior goalkeeper Luca Misko (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater Raritan) collected seven saves, moving into ninth place on the WP career list (134).
  • Zamuner and Richard have each produced four goals this fall. Escobar is tied for the team lead with four assists.
  • The result marked the first postseason victory for the Pioneers since the 2018 ECAC Tournament quarterfinals, when WP defeated Rutgers-Camden by a 2-0 count (11/11/18).
