Men's Swimming Record Breaks on First Day of Mets

Sophomore Anthony Taboadela broke the WP 200 IM record while competing at Mets.
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - After the first day of the Metropolitan Championships on Feb. 19, the William Paterson men's swimming and diving team was ninth out of 16 teams.

Sophomore Anthony Taboadela (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) set a new school record during the 200 IM prelim (1:57.10), and touched seventh in the 200 IM (1:59.64) B Final.

The Pioneer relay team of Taboadela, senior Nicolai Robinson (Matawan, N.J./Old Bridge), junior Nick Cowie (Newton, N.J./Newton) and freshman Drew Macchia (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) finished third in the B Final of the 200 free relay (1:28.82), and second in the B Final of the 400 medley relay (3:40.06).

Macchia completed the 50 free in 21.77, which was enough for fifth in the C Final.

Senior Gennaro Sirianni (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) recorded a score of 352.80, securing eighth place in the one-meter dive.

William Paterson will continue competition at the Metropolitan Championships Feb. 20-21.
