No. 6/6 Women’s Basketball Runs Away from NJCU, 94-38

Pioneers Celebrate Senior Day with Victory

The Pioneers participated in the WBCA's "Play4Kay" program to raise awareness and research funds for breast cancer.

WAYNE, N.J. – The No. 6/6 William Paterson women's basketball team (23-1, 12-1 NJAC) celebrated Senior Day with a runaway 94-38 victory against New Jersey City (4-20, 0-12 NJAC) Feb. 11. 

Senior all-American forward April Smith (Barnegat, N.J./Southern Regional) had her 15th straight double-double, and her 20th of the season, with 28 points and 16 rebounds in just 27 minutes of action.  She was 12-for-18 (.667) from the field.  Senior all-American guard BriAnna Lucas (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) scored 14 tallies while collecting seven boards and four assists.

Sophomore guard Floriana Borova (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) had 14 points, classmate Dana Jeter (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) collected seven tallies, seven rebounds and a career-high seven assists, and junior Jewell Palmer (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) posted a season-best 10 points.

A 13-2 run to finish the first half put the Pioneers firmly in control at 40-20, and that lead more than doubled less than nine minutes into the second half (68-27, 11:12).  WP out-rebounded NJCU by 40, 62-22, including a 29-9 edge on the offensive glass, and owned scoring advantages of 58-12 in the paint and 39-9 on second-chance opportunities.  William Paterson was 39-for-75 (.520) from the field while limiting the Gothic Knights to a 30.4 (17-56) percent effort.

Junior Maxine Kaminski paced NJCU with 12 points, and sophomore Alnisa Hernaiz added eight tallies and seven rebounds.

William Paterson will finish the regular season Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Stevens at 7:00 p.m. before hosting a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament semifinal game Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 7:00 p.m.
