VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS
WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson (5-6-1, 3-3-1 NJAC) owned a 2-1 advantage by halftime, but The College of New Jersey (6-9, 2-4 NJAC) scored three unanswered goals for a 4-2 men's soccer victory Oct. 10.
Sophomore
Marcus Hackett (Montclair, N.J./Immaculate Conception) opened the scoring in the 15th minute, getting on the end of a
Michael Encarnacion (Franklin, N.J./Passaic County Tech) diagonal ball and collecting his team-leading sixth goal of the season.
TCNJ answered less than five minutes later when Kevin Shaw sent a ball up to Tokio Nakamoto, who fought off a defender and hit a ball that slipped through WP goalkeeper
Santiago Mesa's (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Tech) hands and over the goal line.
Senior back
Marcus Rouse (Rahway, N.J./Rahway) sprang classmate
Naeem Boucher (Paterson, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) up the right sideline, and Boucher used his speed to get an open look, sending a bullet past TCNJ keeper Maciej Libucha at the 29:00 mark.
Vinnie Carbone leveled the score less than seven minutes into the second half when he received a long pass from Vince McEnroe and quickly redirected it into the back of the net.
Sean Casey handed the Lions their first lead of the night when he struck to the lower right from the top of the box in the 62nd minute. Kevin McCartney added an 82nd-minute insurance goal when his shot deflected off a Pioneer defender and looped in just under the crossbar.
Mesa had six saves for WP, and Libucha made nine stops for TCNJ.
William Paterson will host St. Joseph's-Long Island Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 7:00 p.m.
