Ferrer Named NJAC Men's Soccer Midfielder of the Year

Six Pioneers Honored by League Office

Senior Anthony Ferrer was named the NJAC Midfielder of the Year after collecting 13 goals and five assists for 31 points.
PITMAN, N.J. – Senior Anthony Ferrer (Lake Hiawatha, N.J./Parsippany) was named the 2011 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Men's Soccer Pat Baldiserra Midfielder of the Year, and was joined by junior back Michael Encarnacion (Franklin, N.J./Passaic County Tech) on the All-NJAC First Team, the league office announced Nov. 2.

Ferrer and Encarnacion led a list of six Pioneer honorees.  Junior forward Naeem Boucher (Paterson, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) and freshman back/forward Marcus Hackett (Montclair, N.J./Immaculate Conception) were selected to the All-Second Team, and senior goalkeeper Zach Collins (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) and junior back Andrew Tauriello (Stockton, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) were honorable-mention recipients.

An honorable-mention all-NJAC pick in 2009, Ferrer leads WP with 13 goals and 31 points this fall, is tied for the team lead with five assists, and has started in all 19 matches.  In the NJAC statistics, he ranks second in points (33rd in Division III), third in goals (33rd nationally), tied for third in assists, fourth in goals/match (0.68) and points/match (1.63), tied for seventh in assists/match (0.26) and tied for ninth in game-winning goals (two).  The Oct. 3 NJAC and ECAC Metro Player of the Week and the Cialella Soccer Classic Offensive MVP (Sept. 10-11), Ferrer has 24 goals and 11 assists for 59 points in 57 career matches (55 starts).

Encarnacion, an honorable-mention all-league selection a year ago, has started in 18 of 19 matches and is tied for the team lead with five assists this year.  Tied for third in assists and tied for seventh in assists/match (0.26) in the conference statistics, he has added a goal this fall for seven points.  Encarnacion has two goals and nine assists for 13 points in 56 career matches (52 starts).

Boucher is second for the Pioneers this fall with eight goals and 20 points, adding four assists while starting in 16 of 19 contests.  Tied for ninth in game-winning goals (two) and 10th in goals, goals/match (0.42) and points in the NJAC, Boucher has started in 18 of 56 career matches and has 11 goals and five assists for 27 points.

Hackett has played on the back line and up top as a rookie this fall, contributing two goals and a pair of assists for six points while starting 15 of 18 matches.

Collins has started 18 of 19 matches this fall between the posts, compiling a 1.01 goals-against average (fourth in NJAC), .695 save percentage and three shutouts while making 41 saves.  In two seasons as a Pioneer, Collins has started in 36 of 37 career matches and owns a 0.96 GAA, .740 save percentage and seven shutouts.

Tauriello has started 18 of 19 matches as a defender this fall, helping WP rank third in the league in goals allowed (18) and goals-against average (0.90).  His lone goal of the season was the game winner during a 5-0 victory against New Jersey City (Sept. 17), and he has two goals and pair of assists in 43 career matches (30 starts).

Third-seeded William Paterson will play at second-seeded and 25th-ranked Montclair State Wednesday, Nov. 2, in the NJAC Tournament semifinal round at 2:00 p.m.
