WAYNE, N.J. – Senior Anthony Ferrer's (Lake Hiawatha, N.J./Parsippany) career-best four goals, including the game winner 5:42 into overtime, allowed William Paterson (8-1-2, 2-1-1 NJAC) to hold off Rowan (4-4-2, 1-2-1 NJAC) for a 4-3 men's soccer victory Oct. 1.

Ferrer picked up a poor clearance by a Prof defender outside of the box and fired across the frame, finding the inside of the right post for the game winner and his team-best 11th goal of the year.

His strike capped what was a wild and dramatic final 33 minutes.  William Paterson built a 3-0 advantage behind Ferrer's hat trick during a 105-second span.  Following 63 minutes of scoreless action, Ferrer broke through with 27:00 remaining, beating Rowan keeper Ryan Gill on a free kick from just steps outside the right corner of the 18-yard box. 

Junior Michael Encarnacion (Franklin, N.J./Passaic County Tech) was dragged down in the box by the Profs 38 seconds later, and Ferrer stepped up and drilled the penalty kick into the back of the netting.  The play ignited controversy, as Gill protested that he was not ready for the PK, receiving the first of four Rowan yellow cards during the next five minutes.

Ferrer finished from the middle of the box an Encarnacion cross, making it a 3-0 WP edge with 25:15 remaining.  But, Rowan began to climb back.  Parker Oris launched a 22-yard bullet to the left side of the Pioneer goal in the 78th minute, followed by a Vince Scalici free kick to Zach Collins' (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) right side five minutes later.  Joe Parella finished the rally, evening the score with just 51 seconds to play in regulation when he picked up a Christian Fountain pass on the right side and drilled a shot just inside the right post.

Collins contributed one save for William Paterson.  Gill made two stops in 71:00 of action, and Michael Fanz-Huster suffered the loss while playing the final 24:42 in goal.

The Profs had the two best chances of the opening period, but WP senior back Jake Weinberg (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) cleared a deflected corner kick away from the back post with 17 minutes left, and junior Andrew Tauriello (Stockton, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) came across the box to clear away Mike Pinter's breakaway shot with less than seven minutes remaining.
