Guadango Earns Fourth First-Team All-NJAC Award to Lead Pioneers

Montanile, Carroll Also Acknowledged by League Office

Senior Mike Guadango earned his fourth first-team all-NJAC award.
PITMAN, N.J. (MAY 5, 2010) – William Paterson senior designated hitter Mike Guadango (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) earned his fourth career selection to the New Jersey Athletic Conference Baseball All-First Team, leading a trio of WP honorees. Pioneer sophomore outfielder Jack Montanile (Weehawken, N.J./Hudson Catholic) was named to the All-NJAC Second Team, and junior left-handed pitcher Brett Carroll (River Edge, N.J./River Dell Regional) was an honorable-mention honoree.

A two-time all-American, Guadango led the Pioneers with eight home runs, a .494 on-base percentage and a .643 slugging percentage this spring, adding a .380 batting average, eight doubles, 34 runs scored, 29 RBI, and eight stolen bases. In the conference statistics, he ranks tied for first in homers/game (0.24), tied for second in home runs, third in walks/game (0.82), fourth in on-base percentage, fifth in slugging percentage, tied for fifth in walks (28), and seventh in total bases (83). In 16 NJAC games this season, he hit .388 with 14 runs, 10 RBI and a .537 slugging percentage.

Guadango finished his career as William Paterson's hits (257) and doubles (54) leader, and ranks first in at-bats (622), third in runs (167), fifth in home runs (26), tied for fifth in hit by pitches (17), sixth in batting average (.413) and tied for 10th in triples (nine) while starting in 149 of 152 career games. Named to the All-NJAC First Team in each of his four seasons as a Pioneer, Guadango was selected to the 2009 Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-America Third Team and the ABCA Mid-Atlantic Region, All-ECAC Metro Region, and New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJCBA) Division II/III All-State First Teams, the 2008 ABCA All-America Second Team and the ABCA Mid-Atlantic Region, ECAC All-Metro Region, and NJCBA Division II/III All-State First Teams, and the 2007 ABCA Mid-Atlantic Region All-Second Team while earning the NJCBA Division II/III Rookie Player of the Year award.

Montanile earned his first all-conference award after starting in 35 of 36 games and batting .331 with nine doubles, two triples, 20 RBI and 28 runs scored, all while contributing 12 assists from the outfield (69 putouts, three errors, .964 fielding percentage). In 17 league games, he had a team-best .423 batting average, 16 runs scored and 30 hits, adding 12 RBI, a .461 on-base percentage and a .493 slugging percentage in 17 games. He finished the season with a 13-game hit streak, and tallied 13 multi-hit games during the campaign.

Carroll paced the pitching staff with a 4-3 record and a 3.04 earned-run average during his first season as a Pioneer. A transfer from Oral Roberts, the southpaw started in nine of 10 appearances, pitched two complete games, struck out 76 and walked 27 in 68.0 innings pitched, and registered a save. In the conference statistics, he was first in innings pitched and strikeouts, eighth in opponent batting average (.244), and ninth in ERA. In six NJAC games (five starts), he was 2-3 with a 2.36 ERA, one save and 43 strikeouts in 42.0 innings.

William Paterson finished the 2010 season 16-21-1 overall and 6-12 in the NJAC.
