Box Score

WAYNE, N.J. – Five different Pioneers found the back of the net as the William Paterson men's soccer team (3-0-1) rolled to a 7-0 victory against Western Connecticut (1-3) Sept. 8 at Pioneer Soccer Park. The seven tallies were the most for the Pioneers since a 7-0 home victory against Hunter on Oct. 4, 2004.

Junior Ambrogio Pipitone (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) twice connected with a Michael Encarnacion (Franklin, N.J./Passaic County Tech) pass at the top of the box, scoring during the fourth and 13th minutes for a 2-0 WP advantage.

Freshman Dan Patton (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) knocked in a Steve DeMatteo (Piscataway, N.J./St. Joseph-Metuchen) pass that came across the box, finishing into an open net for his first career points and a 3-0 score in the 31st minute.

Sophomore Anthony Ferrer (Lake Hiawatha, N.J./Parsippany) headed in a ball from Julian Valerio (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) just 1:46 into the second half, and Valerio scored one of his own less than seven minutes later off an assist by classmate Ryan Miller (Colonia, N.J./Colonia), to make it a 5-0 game.

Ferrer scored his second goal of the evening when he headed in a DeMatteo corner during the 72nd minute of play. Freshman Kevin Bzdek (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) then finished things off when he knocked in a rebound off WestConn keeper Keith Guillette with 10:28 remaining, his first points as a Pioneer.

Senior Dan Peragallo (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) made one save while playing the first 78:05 of the match in goal for the Pioneers. Sophomore Sam Gerais (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) was not forced to make a stop during the final 11:55. Guillette collected two saves for the Colonials.

The Pioneers will play at the Mayor's Cup Tournament this weekend, facing host Oneonta State in the first round Friday, Sept. 11, at 1:00 p.m.
