HOBOKEN, N.J. – William Paterson's stingy defense held Stevens (2-2) to 16-of-51 (.314) shooting from the floor as the Pioneers (4-0) stayed perfect in women's basketball action with a 71-52 victory Nov. 24.
The Ducks made only four of their 15 attempts from three-point range (.267) during the night, but made up for their shooting drought with a 16-for-19 (.842) effort from the charity stripe. William Paterson out-rebounded Stevens, 43-36, and shot 39.1 (14-39) percent overall and 39.3 (11-28) percent from beyond the arc while making six of nine (.667) free throws. The two teams combined for just 23 turnovers in a match-up of teams that received votes in the D3hoops.com Preseason Poll.

Julie Haledjian (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills) led all players with 21 points and six assists, adding seven rebounds. Junior
April Smith (Barnegat, N.J./Southern Regional) netted 14 tallies and three steals, and sophomore
BriAnna Lucas (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) posted 13 points, four assists and three steals. Senior
Elisa Brown (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) led the Pioneers on the boards with eight, and added nine points.
William Paterson jumped out to a 22-6 (9:41) advantage and carried a 36-16 lead into the locker room as the Pioneers forced the Ducks into 4-for-28 (.143) shooting during the opening stanza. That margin ballooned to as many as 31 (65-34, 8:59) during the second half in a contest that saw most of the Pioneer starters play fewer than 30 minutes.
Brittany Fuller scored 11 points for Stevens, becoming the eighth player in program history to score 1,000 career points in the process. Jill Barrett added 11 tallies and nine rebounds.
William Paterson will return to action Sunday, Nov. 29, at FDU-Florham at 2:00 p.m.
