Women's Basketball Wins Fourth Straight with 91-40 Victory

Pioneers Score First 13 Points of Game at Rutgers-Camden

SEWELL, N.J. – William Paterson (13-4, 5-0 NJAC) scored the first 13 points of its New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) women's basketball game Rutgers-Camden (1-13, 0-5 NJAC) en route to a 91-40 victory at Jan. 17.

After scoring the first 13 points of the game, the Pioneers led by double digits the rest of the way. William Paterson held a 50-15 lead at halftime, placing nine players in the scoring column during the opening half. Freshman guard BriAnna Lucas (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) led the first-half explosion with nine points, while junior guards Erin Cook (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) and Jillian Kane (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) each scored eight points during the opening half.

William Paterson placed five players in double digits for the game, led by Lucas (17 points), Cook (16) and Kane (13). The Pioneers also received 11 points from junior guard Julie Haledjian (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills), who also added a game-high seven assists and tied Lucas with a game-high five steals. Sophomore forward April Smith (Barnegat, N.J./Southern Regional) was the fifth Pioneer to hit double digits, scoring 10 points.

William Paterson held a 39-36 advantage off the boards, led by seven rebounds from junior forward Deidra Thompson (Prospect Park, N.J./Paterson Eastside).

The Pioneers shot 55.9 (33-59) percent from the floor, including a 58.3 (7-12) percent effort from three-point range. Rutgers-Camden was 11-of-53 (.208) from the floor and 3-of-17 (.176) from beyond the arc. The Pioneers also forced the Scarlet Raptors into 31 turnovers.

Rutgers-Camden received a double-double from sophomore forward Karima Blackwell, the 11th of her career and fifth this season. She scored 13 points and added 10 rebounds. Junior guard Morgan Kippley had eight points for Rutgers-Camden.

William Paterson will host Rutgers-Newark Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 6:00 p.m.
