Pioneer Swimmers Defeat SUNY Maritime

David Caputo won the 500 (5:23.5) and 1,000 (10:48.8) frees at SUNY Maritime.

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The William Paterson men's (2-1) and women's (3-1) swimming and diving teams each earned victories at SUNY Maritime Nov. 6.

The Pioneer women won every event on their way to a 114-73 team victory. Junior Caitlin Rotondo (Brick, N.J./Methacton) was one of three double winners, touching first in the 50 free (26.89) and 100 breast (1:14.46). Classmate Cathy Hartwell (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) won the 100 (57.73) and 200 (2:08.4) frees, while freshman Lauren Horowitz (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) finished first in the 500 (5:54.86) and 1,000 (12:05.85) frees. Senior Jessica Lyon (Pequannock, N.J./Pequannock) finished first in the 200 IM (2:29.03), senior Nicole Szakacs (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) won the 100 fly (1:09.32), junior Grace McKay (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) was victorious in the 100 back (1:05.29), and sophomore Giana Albruzzese (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) won the one-meter dive (171.75).

The William Paterson men earned a 122-109 win. Freshman Evan Seftel (Montville, N.J./Montville) placed first in the 50 (23.07) and 100 (51.62) frees, and sophomore Kirk Smith (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) touched first in the 200 IM (2:14.81) and 100 breast (1:05.66). Junior David Caputo (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis) won the 500 (5:23.5) and 1,000 (10:48.8) frees, sophomore Vojtech Karas (Brno, Czech Republic/Ludvika Danka) was first in the 200 free (1:55.6) and 100 back (58.6), sophomore Danny Lynch (Rockaway, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) finished first in the 100 fly (1:02.15), and junior Michael O'Shea (Edgewater, N.J./Leonia) posted a score of 204.60 to win the one-meter dive.

The Pioneers will return to Wightman Pool, hosting Baruch and Mills Saturday, Nov. 10, at 1:00 p.m.
