WAYNE, N.J. – Junior softball pitcher Gabrielle Castelli (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) was selected as the April 25 William Paterson Pioneer of the Week.
In four appearances and three starts last week, Castelli was 3-0 with a 0.34 earned-run average, 23 strikeouts and seven walks in 20.2 innings. She pitched a complete-game three-hitter, striking out five during an 11-1, five-inning victory April 19 against New Jersey City. She tossed 6.2 shutout innings in a 15-4 win April 21 at DeSales, giving up one hit while posting 11 strikeouts, and Castelli finished the week with a 3-1, eight-inning victory at Rutgers-Camden April 23, surrendering one unearned run on seven hits while collecting five strikeouts.
