WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's swimming and diving team (4-1) secured an 83-63 win over Purchase (1-1) at Wightman Pool on Nov. 4.
 
TOP PERFORMERS:

• Senior Brandon Arias (North Haledon, N.J./Passaic County Tech) was victorious in the 1,000 free (11:55.09).
• Freshman Justin Melli (Erma, N.J./Lower Cape May Regional) touched the wall first in the 200 free (1:56.68) and 100 fly (1:00.92).
• Senior Andrew Colligan (Andover, N.J./Sussex County Tech) led the 500 free with a time of 26.18.
• Sophomore Nicky Byrd (Purchase, N.Y./Harrison) finished first in the 200 IM (2:18.54).
• Junior Ricardo Ordinola (Lodi, N.J./Passaic County Tech) earned nine points with a first-place finish in the 100 free (56.86).
• The Pioneers won the 200 medley with efforts by Byrd, freshman Owen Kane (West Milford, N.J./West Milford), Ordinola and senior Anthony Newman (Lake Hiawatha, N.J./Parsippany), finishing with a time of 1:57.31.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Melli posted personal bests in the 200 free (1:56.68) and 100 fly (1:00.92).
• Freshman Max Russel beat his personal records in the 50 free (26.38) and 100 free (58.03).
• Junior Peter Usher (Boonton, N.J./Mountain Lakes) secured personal bests in the 50 free (28.10) and 100 free (1:10.75).
• Senior Bruno Gavela (Wayne, N.J./Klein Collins) produced a personal record in the 50 free (28.13).

UP NEXT:

• William Paterson travels to Bethlehem, Pa., for a 1:00 p.m. meet against Moravian on Saturday, Nov. 11.
