Spot in the NJAC Tournament Final on the Line when Women's Basketball Hosts Semifinal Thursday

Pioneers, Lions to Meet at 6:00 p.m.

PITMAN, N.J. – The fourth-seeded William Paterson women's basketball team (13-10, 11-7 NJAC) will host eighth-seeded The College of New Jersey (13-12, 8-10 NJAC) in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament semifinal round Thursday, Feb. 24, at 6:00 p.m.
 
WP students with ID will be admitted for free, courtesy of the Division of Student Development. All WP students with ID will have the chance to enter a raffle for a WP winter hat, and the first 100 WP students with ID will receive a free hot dog, courtesy of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation.

WHAT'S AT STAKE
  • The WP/TCNJ winner will advance to the championship game Saturday, Feb. 26, against the winner of the other semifinal between second-seeded Rowan (17-8, 14-4 NJAC) and sixth-seeded New Jersey City (11-9, 9-9 NJAC). The highest remaining seed will host the final at a time to be determined. The NJAC Tournament champion will receive an automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
 
WP IN THE NJAC TOURNAMENT
  • The Pioneers are seeking their fourth conference title (1993, 2011, 2012).

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
  • William Paterson is 13-10 overall and 11-7 in conference play this season after a 63-57 quarterfinal victory against fifth-seeded Ramapo (10-12, 9-9 NJAC) Feb. 22.
  • A member of the All-NJAC First Team, junior forward/guard Justina Cabezas (Carlstadt, N.J./Becton Regional) leads the Pioneers with 14.8 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per contest.
  • Senior forward/guard Brianna Brooks (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook), who was an honorable-mention all-conference pick this season, is posting 11.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per outing.
  • Junior guard Brianna Smith (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) is contributing 9.9 points and 2.0 assists per contest.

SCOUTING THE LIONS
  • The College of New Jersey is 13-12 overall and 8-10 in league play after upsetting top-seeded Kean (17-7, 16-2 NJAC), 51-43, during the quarterfinal round Feb. 22.
  • Junior guard Julia Setaro, a second-team all-NJAC honoree, leads the Lions with 15.3 points and 1.2 steals per game, chipping in 3.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per contest.
  • Freshman guard Nina Branchizio is contributing 7.8 points and a team-high 2.1 assists per outing.
  • Junior guard Sydney Blum is adding 4.6 points to her team-best 5.1 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game.
 
EARLIER THIS SEASON
  • TCNJ posted a 77-72 overtime home win against the Pioneers Jan. 15, and WP registered a 58-48 Senior Day victory against the Lions Feb. 12.
