Men's Swimming and Diving Defeats Purchase on the Road, 112-55

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The William Paterson men's swimming and diving team (4-3) earned a win on the road against Purchase (2-3), 112-55, Nov. 5.
 
TOP PERFORMERS:
  • Sophomore Shane Apito (Lake Hiawatha, N.J./Parsippany) touched the wall first in the 100 (1:07.56), 500 (5:38.52) and 1,000 (12:46.09) frees.
  • Freshman David Rios (Garfield, N.J./Garfield) earned two first-place finishes in the 50 free (23.51) and 100 fly (57.17).
  • Freshman Nicky Byrd (Purchase, N.Y./Harrison) placed first in the 200 IM (2:16.77) and 100 back (1:03.32).
  • Junior Brandon Arias (North Haledon, N.J./Passaic County Tech) secured first place in the 200 free (2:11.28).
  • Junior Jackson Forrest (Lewes, Del./Wayne Valley), junior Andrew Colligan (Andover, N.J./Sussex County Tech), Arias and Rios won the 200 medley relay (2:00.08).
  • WP secured first in the 200 free relay, using swims by junior Bruno Gavela (Wayne, N.J./Klein Collins), Forrest, junior Anthony Newman (Lake Hiawatha, N.J./Parsippany) and junior Jason Peralta (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack), finishing with a time of 1:54.30.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Byrd earned two new personal records in the 200 IM (2:16.77) and 100 breast (1:14.62).
  • Colligan secured a PR in the 100 fly (1:05.38).
  • Newman posted a personal best in the 200 free (2:25.98).

  • William Paterson resumes NJAC competition Tuesday, Nov. 15, at home against Rowan at 4:00 p.m.
