Football to Battle Host Brockport Oct. 6

Pioneers Face Golden Eagles in 1:00 p.m. NJAC Clash

William Paterson (2-2, 0-2 NJAC) visits Brockport (3-2, 1-2 NJAC) Saturday, Oct. 6.  Kickoff at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium will be at 1:00 p.m.  Live statistics will be available via wpupioneers.com, and a live audio broadcast will be provided by WP Brave New Radio 88.7 FM.

Scouting the Pioneers 
William Paterson is 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) following a 21-14 victory at Maritime (1-3, 0-1 ECFC) Sept. 29.  

Junior Ryan Gresik (Newton, N.J./Newton) is 43-for-76 for 410 yards, two touchdowns and one interception under center. 

Senior tailback Dawys German (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington), a first-team all-conference honoree a year ago, has carried 76 times for 378 yards and a touchdown, and has also caught nine passes (42 yards).  Sophomore running back Isaac Jlaka (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) has 14 rushes for 67 yards and a score.

Junior wide receiver Mick Paye (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) leads the Pioneers with 12 receptions, 173 yards and two touchdown catches.  Classmate Howard Davis (Franklin Park, N.J./Franklin) has caught nine passes for 100 yards and a TD.

Leading the defense is sophomore linebacker John Garbowski (Mohegan Lake, N.Y./Lakeland), who has collected 41 tackles (13 solo, 4.0 TFL, 1.0 sack).  He was an honorable-mention all-NJAC pick a year ago and is currently tied for third in the league with 10.2 tackles/game.  Senior bandit German Decena (Union City, N.J./Emerson) owns 29 stops (11 solo) and returned an interception 70 yards for a score last week at Maritime, while senior linebacker Clifton Glaze (Palmyra, N.J./Palmyra) has 26 tackles.  Senior defensive back Javon Hodges (Parlin, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) has 25 stops (11 solo, 1.0 sack).

William Paterson returned nine offensive starters and eight defensive starters from a 2011 team that finished 4-6 overall and 3-6 in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play.  The Pioneers, who welcomed back 54 letterwinners and five all-conference selections, were predicted to finish sixth in the 2011 NJAC Preseason Coaches Poll.

Brockport is 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) after a 17-3 loss at Rowan (4-1, 2-1 NJAC) Sept. 29.  Under the direction of head coach Rocco Salomone, the

Golden Eagles were selected to finish seventh in the 2012 NJAC Preseason Coaches Poll.

Senior quarterback Joe Scibilia is 113-for-194 for 1,492 yards, 10 touchdowns and four interceptions under center, and has added 136 yards and a touchdown on 47 carries on the ground. 

Sophomore running back Tyrone Nichols leads the Golden Eagle ground attack with 477 yards on 101 carries, scoring three touchdowns.  Junior wide receiver Jake Spalik leads Brockport with 32 catches for 391 yards (two touchdowns) and is complemented by three other receivers; sophomore Andrew Mrozak (18 catches, 335 yards, three touchdowns), senior Joseph Innes (18 catches, 317 yards, three touchdowns) and senior Jordan Hogan (14 catches, 191 yards, one touchdown).

Junior defensive back Anthony Bianchi leads the Golden Eagles with 45 tackles (23 solo, 0.5 TFL, one INT), and sophomore linebacker Brett Evensen has collected 39 stops (25 solo, 5.0 TFL, 1.0 sack).  Freshman defensive lineman Tarik Bennett leads the pass rush with 2.0 sacks, and sophomore defensive back Colby Morabito has a team-high three interceptions    Innes has averaged 34.13 yards per punt, and senior E.J. Genzano is 13-for-15 on PATs and 3-for-5 on field goals.  Sophomore Darrel Flores is averaging 17.50 yards per kickoff return.

Brockport was 3-7 overall and 3-6 in the NJAC last fall.
