Football Drops Decision at No. 14 Christopher Newport

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The William Paterson football team (0-4, 0-1 NJAC) dropped a 49-3 decision at No. 14 Christopher Newport (4-0, 1-0 NJAC) Oct. 3.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Captains capped off their first possession with a 15-yard touchdown through the air (7-0, 10:16), then punched the ball in from one yard out for a two-score lead (14-0, 6:14).
  • CNU added to its tally with a four-yard run (21-0, 13:56), a 21-yard pass play (28-0, 6:39) and a one-yard touchdown throw (35-0 4:52) during the second quarter.
  • Sophomore Omar Rodriguez (Cliffside Park, N.J./Cliffside Park) converted a 27-yard field goal to put the Pioneers on the scoreboard with 3:48 remaining during the third quarter.
  • Christopher Newport added a nine-yard carry (42-3, 9:14) and a 50-yard pass play (49-3, 7:04) for fourth-quarter touchdowns.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Senior quarterback JC Landicini (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Cedar Creek) was 4-for-8 under center for 10 yards and one interception. Freshman quarterback Michael Ollendorf (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Borough) finished 3-for-5 for 38 yards.
  • Senior running back Ethan MacNair (Beacon, N.Y./Somerville) carried 21 times for 68 yards.
  • Sophomore linebacker Terrill Yankson (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) led the Pioneer defense with 10 tackles (four solo).
  • Sophomore defensive lineman Kaiden Rex (Totowa, N.J./Passaic County Technical) made six stops (five solo), including 2.0 sacks.
