Football Upended at Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. – The William Paterson football team (0-2) was upended by host Salve Regina (3-0), 41-6, Sept. 19.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Seahawks built a 20-0 first-quarter advantage with scoring pass plays of 10, 11 and 15 yards.
  • Salve Regina added an 18-yard touchdown through the air, and TD runs of seven and six yards, for a 41-0 margin at the end of the third quarter.
  • Three third-down conversions and one on fourth down helped set up an 18-yard touchdown toss by senior quarterback JC Landicini (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Cedar Creek) to junior wide receiver Hilton Aguilar (Norfolk, Va./Warwick), getting WP on the scoreboard with 7:28 to play.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Landicini finished 18-for-27 for 70 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
  • Senior Ethan MacNair (Beacon, N.Y./Somerville) led the ground game with 32 yards on 13 attempts.
  • Aguilar scored his first touchdown as a Pioneer.
  • Sophomore defensive back Micah McDowell (Vauxhall, N.J./Union) led the defense with seven stops (three solo).
  • Sophomore linebacker Terrill Yankson (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) added an interception to his six solo tackles.
  • Junior defensive lineman James Bonner (Pequannock, N.J./Pequannock) collected his first career interception.

  • William Paterson returns to Wightman Stadium Saturday, Sept. 26, to face Moravian at 1:00 p.m. on Communiversity Day.
