Jessica Nendze (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) scored her first career goal, but William Paterson (0-1) could not get past host FDU-Florham (1-0) in a 2-1 result in the field hockey season opener for both schools Sept. 1.
Victoria Nedo got the Devils on the scoreboard less than three minutes into the contest, converting a Lanie Andrews pass to give FDU-Florham the early lead. Nendze answered eight minutes later, knotting the score with an unassisted strike, but Megan Springmeyer scored the game winner 15 minutes into the second period off a penalty corner.
Senior
Meghan Trivett (Highlands, N.J./Middletown North) made nine saves for WP in goal. Tess Loughran had seven for the Devils.
William Paterson will return to action Saturday, Sept. 3, taking on King's at Stevenson's Black Eyed Susan Tournament at 4:00 p.m.
