Baseball Drops 5-0 Decision at Ramapo

Pioneers Are One-Hit by Roadrunners

William Paterson suffered a 5-0 loss at Ramapo.

MAHWAH, N.J. – The William Paterson baseball team (16-9-1, 5-3 NJAC) dropped a 5-0 decision at Ramapo (18-6, 4-4 NJAC) April 15.

The Pioneers had just one hit, a Jack Montanile (Weehawken, N.J./Hudson Catholic) seventh-inning single to center field. Ramapo opened the scoring with one run in the second, using three straight singles and an error on a potential inning-ending double-play ball.

The Roadrunners opened up a 4-0 lead in the fourth thanks to a pair of RBI-singles and a sacrifice fly. A walk and then two errors on a sacrifice bunt attempt tacked on a single Ramapo run in the seventh.

Sophomore J.J. Moran (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley) started on the mound for WP, allowing four runs on seven hits (2-3) in 4.0 innings. Freshman Eric Villegas (Newark, N.J./Elizabeth) pitched 3.0 innings and surrendered an unearned run and one hit, while junior Steve Coral (Totowa, N.J./Passaic Valley Regional) tossed a perfect ninth inning.

Sophomore Travis Zilg pitched a complete game for the Roadrunners (4-2), striking out five and walking two. Kevin Knox and Nicholas DiGirolamo each contributed a pair of hits.

William Paterson will play a doubleheader at The College of New Jersey Saturday, April 16, at 11:30 a.m.
