GLASSBORO, N.J. -- The No. 30 Rowan baseball team (15-6, 7-0 NJAC) swept a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) doubleheader against visiting William Paterson (13-10-1, 3-4 NJAC), 6-3 and 7-1, on April 10. The Profs lead the league standings and extended their win streak to seven games.

GAME ONE
Right-hander Jeff White pitched 8.0 innings, allowing one earned run and striking out 10 Pioneers for the win (3-1). Righty Ryan Peterson tossed a scoreless ninth inning for his second save. Junior Brett Carroll (River Edge, N.J./River Dell Regional) gave up six unearned runs in a complete-game loss (3-1), tallying 10 strikeouts.

Prof designated hitter Eric Newell was 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored. Second baseman Brandon Winkler added one hit in three at-bats and two RBI, and catcher Nick Turano went 2-for-3 and scored twice.

For the Pioneers, designated hitter Mike Guadango (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) totaled three hits (four at-bats) and one run scored. Third baseman Rob Somers (West Long Branch, N.J./Shore Regional) was 2-for-5 with a run scored, while catcher Zac Rose (Nutley, N.J./St. Mary Rutherford) registered two hits (four at-bats) and one RBI

William Paterson went ahead 2-0 in the top of the first inning after freshman Mike Linskey (Stanhope, N.J./Pope John XXIII) singled up the middle to score Somers, and Rose knocked in Guadango with a single through the left side. In the bottom of the second, Winkler drove in first baseman Matt Johanson and Turano. Newell reached base on an error and went to second on Winkler's single. He stole third and came home when the catcher threw the ball over the third baseman's head to give Rowan at 3-2 lead.

The Pioneers tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the eighth. Rose singled and was lifted for pinch runner Jonattan Fernandez (Paterson, N.J./Sports Business Academy). Pinch hitter Mike Moran (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Twp.) singled to left-center field, moving Fernandez to second, and senior Andrue Laguerre (Jersey City, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) hit a single through the left side, plating Fernandez for the tying run.

The Profs answered with three runs in the bottom half of the eighth. Marc Magliarro and Matt Citro got on base via errors, and after a ground out by left fielder Scott Weaver advanced the runners to second and third, Turano was intentionally walked. On an attempted pick-off play, Magliaro crossed the plate on an error by the third baseman. Newell then ripped a two-run single to left field, bringing Turano and Citro in.

GAME TWO
During the nightcap, left-hander Michael Cox went 6.0 innings, surrendering one earned run. Cox (2-1) struck out three hitters. Righty Dan Alcala (Totowa, N.J./Passaic Valley) took the loss for the Pioneers. He (1-1) allowed three earned runs in 3.0 innings.

Right fielder Jordan Marsch led Rowan with three hits (four at-bats) and two runs scored. Magliaro was 1-for-5 with two RBI and one run scored. Turano posted one hit in three at-bats, adding a RBI and one run scored.

Pioneer left fielder Jack Montanile (Weehawken, N.J./Hudson Catholic) went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Guadango scored William Paterson's only run. Shortstop Anthony Dorio (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) and Laguerre both had two hits in four trips to the plate.

William Paterson took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Guadango reached base on a fielder's choice, went to second on a balk and moved to third on a wild pitch. Montanile's single to third base then brought Guadango home for the game's first run.

In the bottom of the fourth, Weaver led off with a double to left field and Turano drove him in with a single down the right-field line. Sean Bowen walked with the bases loaded, scoring Turano, and Brad Woodend's sacrifice fly to center field plated Marsch to put the Profs ahead, 3-1.

Rowan tacked on four runs in the sixth inning. Marsch singled and Johanson followed with a walk. They advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. Dave Lenig was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Magliaro hit a single to center field to plate Marsch and Johanson. Citro knocked in Lenig with a single up the middle, and he went to second and Magliaro reached third on a wild pitch. Magliaro later crossed the plate on an error by the catcher.
