Carroll Helps Pitch Baseball Past UMass Boston, 7-0

Four Pioneers Have Multi-Hit Games

WINTER HAVEN, FLA. – Junior Brett Carroll (River Edge, N.J./River Dell Regional) tossed 7.0 innings of shutout baseball as William Paterson (3-1-1) earned a 7-0 victory against UMass Boston (0-1) March 13 at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

Back-to-back RBI-singles by junior Zac Rose (Nutley, N.J./St. Mary Rutherford) and sophomore Anthony Dorio (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) handed the Pioneers a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second, and two innings later senior Andrue Laguerre (Jersey City, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) doubled in Dorio and classmate Marc Palestina (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) plated two more with a two-bagger to right-center, making it a 5-0 score.

Senior Mike Guadango (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) hit his third home run of the season, this one a solo shot over the fence in left-center in the bottom of the sixth, and classmate Miguel Lugo (Jersey City, N.J./St. Mary's) drove in the final run with a seventh-inning single.

Carroll improved to 2-0, scattering three hits and four walks while striking out eight hitters. Sophomore Steve Coral (Totowa, N.J./Passaic Valley) pitched the final 2.0 innings and did not allow a hit while registering two strikeouts. Guadango, Palestina, Rose and sophomore Jack Montanile (Weehawken, N.J./Hudson Catholic) each contributed a pair of hits.

The Pioneers will face Babson Sunday, March 14, at 1:00 p.m. at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.
