Field Hockey Late Rally Falls Short at Alvernia, 2-1

Ayusa Scores Fourth Goal of the Year

Senior Christina Ayusa scored her fourth goal of the year in the game at Alvernia.

READING, Pa. – William Paterson (4-5) rallied late but could not score the equalizer, falling 2-1 at Alvernia (5-3) Sept. 29.

Junior Ashley Tatangelo gave the Crusaders an early 2-0 lead, scoring off a Samantha Landis assist 1:11 into the contest and converting a penalty stroke in the 29th minute.

After being out-shot 7-4 during the first half, the Pioneers owned a 6-3 edge during the second period. Senior Christina Ayusa (Runnemede, N.J./Triton) got William Paterson on the scoreboard with an unassisted strike, her fourth goal of the year, with 1:54 to play to cut Alvernia's lead in half, but the Pioneers could get no closer.

Senior Christina Auger (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) had two saves for William Paterson, and Abby Eby had four stops for the Crusaders.

William Paterson will next play Saturday, Oct. 3, at Widener at 1:00 p.m.
