WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson volleyball head coach Sandy Ferrarella became the 20th Division III women's volleyball coach overall, and the 14th active DIII coach, to earn 500 career victories when the Pioneers (3-0) defeated St. Joseph's-Long Island (1-1) 3-2 Sept. 6. William Paterson later defeated Manhattanville (1-2) 3-0 during the Pioneers' first home matches of the year.

Ferrarella, who now owns a career record of 501-330 in her 30th season as her alma mater's head coach, didn't get her milestone win the easy way. The Pioneers fought back during the third set, pulling ahead 20-10 and holding on for a 25-17 victory. The fourth set was a see-saw battle before WP extended a 20-16 edge into a 25-21 win, setting up the decisive fifth set. St. Joseph's took an early 3-1 lead in the race to 15 points, and the two sides were tied at 7-7 before William Paterson was able to score eight of the final 11 points, giving Ferrarella the historic victory at 15-10.
