Box Score

WAYNE, N.J. – Junior Christina Ayusa (Runnemede, N.J./Triton) recorded her sixth and seventh goals of the season in the second half, pacing the William Paterson field hockey team (7-3) in a 3-1 victory against visiting Alvernia (5-4) in non-conference action at Wightman Stadium Sept. 30.

Senior Meghan Hall (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Twp.), the Pioneers' leading scorer, got things going in the first period when she took an assist from teammate Lauren Frazier (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) and scored, giving William Paterson the 1-0 lead. It was Hall's 12th goal of the season, and Frazier's third assist.

The Pioneers out-shot Alvernia 9-2 during the opening half of play, but would not score again until Ayusa took over and paced the offensive attack. In the 37th minute, she fired her sixth goal of the season off an assist from Hall to give the Pioneers the 2-0 lead. After Alvernia junior forward Janelle Lynch scored to break the shutout during the 46th minute, Ayusa knocked in her second goal of the night, this time off a feed from sophomore Amanda Sheehan (Boonton, N.J./Boonton), to finish the scoring and give the Pioneers a 3-1 advantage.

WP's junior goalkeeper Christina Auger (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) made four saves in the win, while Audrey Hoffman collected eight saves in the loss for Alvernia.

William Paterson will play next at Manhattanville Friday, Oct. 3, at 4:00 p.m.
