SCOUTING WILLIAM PATERSON
The Pioneers return 51 letterwinners, eight offensive starters and six defensive starters from a 2007 team that posted a 5-5 overall record and a 3-4 mark in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play.
WP started the campaign 2-0 for the first time since 2001, and recorded its highest conference win total in 13 years. The 5-5 final mark also signified the second time in three years that the Pioneers finished the season with a .500 winning percentage. Three of the Pioneers' five losses last fall came by single digits.
A trio of all-conference selections return to lead William Paterson in senior running back
Shaun Puluse (5-10, 210, Haledon, N.J./Passaic Tech), senior linebacker
Mike Lamego (6-1, 235, North Arlington, N.J./Queen of Peace) and junior linebacker
Jared Burke (6-1, 200, Egg Harbor Twp., N.J./Egg Harbor Twp.). Puluse, an honorable-mention all-NJAC selection last fall, paced the Pioneers with 170 carries, 533 yards and three touchdowns during his first season after transferring from Saint Peter's College. Burke earned second-team all-league honors after posting a team-best 77 total tackles (50 solo, 10.0 TFL) as a sophomore, while his two blocked kicks, interception and pair of fumble recoveries were evidence of his ability to make the big play at the most opportune time. Lamego also earned honorable-mention accolades after collecting 52 tackles (35 solo, 6.5 TFL) and two interceptions.
Jerry Flora, who served the six previous seasons as a Pioneer assistant coach, begins his first season as the head coach at William Paterson.
SCOUTING BROCKPORT
