Box Score

MADISON, N.J. – William Paterson (15-9) held a 9-6 lead entering the bottom of the ninth inning, but host FDU-Florham rallied with four runs during their last at-bat, snatching a 10-9 victory April 8.

Two singles and a walk loaded the bases for the Devils in the ninth, followed by a run-scoring hit by pitch. A strikeout was followed by a RBI-walk, but a second strikeout made it a 9-8 score with two outs. Another walk tied the game, and a single through the left side of the infield gave FDU-Florham the victory.

The Devils scored a pair of runs in the first, and three more in the third made it a 5-0 FDU-Florham advantage. William Paterson fought back with three runs in the fourth and one more in the sixth before exploding for five runs in the seventh, capped by a three-run homer from junior John Elia (Emerson, N.J./Pascack Valley), for a 9-5 lead.

Elia was 3-for-4 for the Pioneers with the home run, three RBI and three runs scored, while senior Anthony Perrone (Midland Park, N.J./Bergen Catholic) was 3-for-5 with a double.  Junior Mark Robbins (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) suffered the loss (0-1) in relief.

The Pioneers will return to NJAC action, playing at New Jersey City Thursday, April 10, at 3:30 p.m.
