Baseball Ends Season with Doubleheader Split at Rutgers-Camden

CAMDEN, N.J. – The William Paterson baseball team (19-20, 3-15 NJAC) ended its season with a 3-10, 7-3 doubleheader split at Rutgers-Camden (25-15, 8-10 NJAC) April 26.
 
GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Two singles netted one Scarlet Raptor run during the bottom of the first inning, and a solo homer, base hit, steal and error made it 3-0 after two frames.
  • Rutgers-Camden used five hits, a hit by pitch and three walks to cross the plate seven times in the sixth.
  • Junior second baseman Angel Colon (Hawthorne, N.J./St. Joseph's Regional) was hit by a two-out pitch in the seventh and was lifted for sophomore pinch runner Devin Daproza (Englewood, N.J./Leonia), who scored two batters later on a base hit to right center by junior left fielder Jordan Brown (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway).
  • The Pioneers added two more in the eighth with a base hit by junior shortstop Dylan Santos (Nutley, N.J./Nutley), a walk by sophomore first baseman Ty Kobylakiewicz (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge), an RBI-double by senior designated hitter Giovanni Aresta (Matawan, N.J./Old Bridge), an error and a wild pitch.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Brown was 3-for-4 with an RBI.
  • Senior Chase Geisler (Lodi, N.J./Lodi) surrendered seven runs (six earned), eight hits and two walks, striking out one during 5.0 innings of action (4-4).
  • Sophomore Kevin Reiner (Maywood, N.J./Hackensack) allowed three runs on three hits and two walks over 0.2 inning, while sophomore Thomas Papeo (Matawan, N.J./Old Bridge) worked 2.1 shutout innings of two-hit ball, striking out one and walking one.
 
GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • A bases-loaded wild pitch allowed Rutgers-Camden to score once during the home half of the first.
  • An Aresta base hit and Kobylakiewicz home run made it a 2-1 WP advantage in the second.
  • Four consecutive singles by senior center fielder Braden Ramirez (Middlesex, N.J./Union Catholic), Santos, senior second baseman Tom Radigan (Verona, N.J./Verona) and Aresta netted one run in the third, and three batters later Kubis drove in two more runs with a base hit, making it a 5-1 game.
  • A two-run homer pulled the Scarlet Raptors within two at 5-3 after five.
  • Santos singled in senior catcher Austin Jack (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Twp.), who reached via a base hit, for one run in the sixth.
  • A Ramirez eighth-inning sacrifice fly plated Kubis for the game's final run.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Kubis finished 3-for-3, adding two RBI and a run scored. Ramirez, Santos and Aresta all had two-hit efforts.
  • Sophomore Robert Nathan (Lords Valley, Pa./Vernon Twp.) improved to 5-2 after tossing 6.1 innings, giving up three hits, three runs and seven walks with three strikeouts.
  • Senior Neel Telidevara (Dayton, N.J./South Brunswick) earned his first save of the year with 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out three batters.
