CHANDLER, Ariz. – John Elia (Emerson, N.J./Pascack Valley) and Vince Joyce (Franklin, N.J./Walkill Valley) each had three hits as William Paterson (7-5) finished its Spring Break trip with a 6-1 victory against Concordia March 21 at the Greater Phoenix Invitational.

Elia's triple in the second inning gave the Pioneers a 2-0 lead, and Joyce's single made it a 3-0 score in the third. William Paterson scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, and carried a shutout into the top of the ninth.

Elia had two RBI and a run scored, while Joyce added a RBI and two runs. Sophomore Vin Ganz (Waterbury, Conn./Holy Cross) was 2-for-5 with a double and RBI.

Senior Steve Schlitzer (West New York, N.J./Memorial) picked up the win (1-1), throwing eight scoreless innings and striking out seven while allowing five hits and two walks. Junior Dan VandeVrede (Lincoln Park, N.J./Pequannock) pitched the ninth, allowing one earned run on one hit.

William Paterson will return to action Tuesday, March 25, at Manhattanville at 3:30 p.m.
