Pioneers Breeze past Old Westbury, 15-1

WAYNE, N.J. – Fourteen hits, including five for extra bases, helped the William Paterson baseball team (8-4-1) breeze past SUNY Old Westbury (5-8), 15-1, March 26 at the Pioneer Baseball Park.

The Pioneers scored their runs in bunches, crossing the plate three times during the second inning, once in the third, five times in the fourth and six times in the sixth.

Senior Don Reinertsen (Swartzwood, N.J./Kittatinny) led the offensive onslaught, going 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, a triple, one run scored and five runs-batted-in. Senior Ryan Brand (Monroe, N.J./Marlboro) went 2-for-4, scoring three runs and driving in five with a pair of doubles. Junior Dan Limone (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) had a pair of hits, including a double, one run scored and two RBI, while sophomore Will Courter (Roseland, N.J./West Essex) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Freshman Greg Stokes (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Indian Hills) earned his first career win, scattering five hits in 7.0 innings, allowing one unearned run and two walks while striking out seven hitters. Senior Christian Miranda (Bogota, N.J./Bergen Catholic) threw a perfect inning of relief in the eighth, followed by Reinertsen, who had a strikeout and a walk in his one inning of work.

William Paterson will begin New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play Thursday, March 29, when the Pioneers host The College of New Jersey at 3:00 p.m.
