HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • WP jumped out to a 2–0 lead in the first inning. Junior Devin Daproza (Englewood, N.J./Leonia) led off with a single to the right side and later scored on Senior Jordan Brown's (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) double to right center to open the scoring. Junior Ty Kobylakiewicz (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) then followed with a single to left field, driving in Brown to give the Pioneers an early advantage.

  • DeSales answered with a run in the bottom of the first to cut the deficit to 2–1.

  • The Bulldogs then tied the game with a run in the third before adding two in the fourth and two more in the fifth to take a 6–2 lead.

  • Kobylakiewicz led off the sixth with a single to left and moved to third on Junior Stephen Kubis' (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) double to right-center. Senior Dylan Santos (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) then lifted a sacrifice fly to right, bringing Kobylakiewicz home to make it 6–3.

  • In the seventh inning, sophomore Sean Lauterhahn (Oradell, N.J./River Dell) led off with a single to center and moved to third following Daproza's walk and a groundout. Freshman Matt Caruso (North Haledon, N.J./Passaic County Technical) then singled to third, bringing home Lauterhahn to make it 6–4.
