Baseball Falls to UW-La Crosse

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The William Paterson baseball team (6-8) was defeated, 8-4, by Wisconsin-La Crosse (4-3) March 20 at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Eagles registered three straight singles to open the third inning and took a 1-0 lead.
  • In the bottom of the third, WP had runners on first and second with two outs when freshman Matt Caruso (North Haledon, N.J./Passaic County Technical) logged an RBI double to even the score.
  • UW-La Crosse regained the lead with a pair of runs in the fourth to go ahead by two (3-1).
  • Senior Christian Peluso (Bridgewater, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) and junior Stephen Kubis (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) recorded back-to-back base hits to lead off the fourth before senior Eliot Germanson (New York, N.Y./LaGuardia) notched an RBI double to trim the deficit to one (3-2). Senior Jordan Brown (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) then came up and grounded out to the right side of the infield, allowing Kubis to cross home for the game-tying run.
  • The Eagles plated two runs in the fifth and tacked on an insurance run in the seventh to push their advantage to three (6-3).
  • WP loaded the bases with no outs in the eighth when Brown hit a sacrifice fly to center to make it a two-run game (6-4).
  • UW-Lacrosse scored a run in the ninth before securing the 8-4 victory.
