Baseball Upended by Keystone

LA PLUME, Pa. – The William Paterson baseball team (6-9) was upended by host Keystone (8-7), 8-3, March 25.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • An error, bunt, passed ball and sacrifice fly handed the Giants a 1-0 first-inning lead.
  • Keystone added two more in the second with a hit by pitch, base hit, squeeze bunt and RBI-single.
  • The Pioneers crossed the plate once during the top half of the third inning. Senior third baseman Jordan Brown (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) and sophomore left fielder Jesse Bash (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly) started the frame with base hits, and after a fielder's choice and groundout, freshman right fielder Matt Caruso (North Haledon, N.J./Passaic County Technical) singled to left center to make it a 3-1 game.
  • The Giants used a walk, stolen base and single to make it a 4-1 margin after five innings.
  • A solo home run pushed Keystone's advantage to 5-1 in the sixth.
  • WP responded with a two-run seventh, stringing together a Bash one-out single to left center, a base hit to left by junior shortstop Devin Daproza (Englewood, N.J./Leonia) and a two-run Caruso double to right field.
  • A double, balk, walk, squeeze bunt, hit by pitch and double added three more to the Giants' tally in the eighth inning, 8-3.
