Baseball Shuts Out Mount Aloysius in Doubleheader Sweep

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson baseball team (2-1) defeated Mount Aloysius (0-2), 6-0, in game one before securing a 3-0 victory in game two to complete the sweep in the 2026 home opener Feb. 21 at Jeff Albies Field.

GAME ONE:
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior Devin Daproza (Englewood, N.J./Leonia) and senior Dylan Santos (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) both singled to start the bottom of the first before a fielder's choice left runners on the corners. Junior Ty Kobylakiewicz (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) then blasted a three-run home run to right center to put WP on top, 3-0.  
  • Santos led off the fifth with a double to left and came around to score on a two-bagger down the left field line by Kobylakiewicz, extending the WP lead to four (4-0).
  • The Pioneers pushed the advantage to five (5-0) after senior Christian Peluso (Bridgewater, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) ripped a leadoff double to left before scoring on a sacrifice fly to right by junior Avery Whitney (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough).
  • In the eighth, WP had runners on first and second with two outs after a Santos double and a walk by junior Stephen Kubis (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills). Kobylakiewicz then recorded his fifth RBI of the day following a single to center.  
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Kobylakiewicz went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, five RBI and a run scored.
  • Santos batted 4-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored.
  • Daproza tallied two singles and a run scored.
  • Junior Jose Marte (Bogota, N.J./Bogota) recorded the win in his first outing of the season, allowing just three hits in 6.0 scoreless innings.
  • Freshman JT DeRiso (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley) earned his first career save, fanning four batters in 3.0 innings of work.
GAME TWO:
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers got on the board first after Daproza singled up the middle to lead off the game and later came around to score on a Kubis groundout to the right side.
  • In the sixth, senior Steven Peralta (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Technical) ripped a leadoff double to left and was sacrificed over to third before crossing home on a Daproza groundout to second base to make it a two-run game (2-0).
  • WP tacked on another insurance run in the seventh to go ahead by three (3-0) after Peralta hit a sacrifice fly to left with one out and the bases loaded.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Peralta went 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
  • Daproza recorded a single, an RBI and a run scored.
  • Kobylakiewicz drew two walks and crossed home once.
  • Junior Rob Nathan (Lords Valley, Pa./Vernon Twp.) earned the win, tossing 7.0 scoreless frames while punching out eight batters.
  • Senior Nick Durso (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) pitched a scoreless ninth inning, fanning three batters to grab his first save of the season.
