Three-Run Rally Lifts Baseball to Victory

Pioneers Defeat Visiting Arcadia, 3-2

WAYNE, N.J. – A three-run sixth inning lifted the William Paterson baseball team (3-1) to a 3-2 victory against Arcadia (1-3) March 6 at Jeff Albies Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights plated one run during their first at-bat with a walk and double, then made it 2-0 in the third when a comebacker with runners on the corners delivered one Arcadia baserunner home.
  • The Pioneers crossed the plate three times during the home half of the sixth. Sophomore center fielder Sean Lauterhahn (Oradell, N.J./River Dell) reached on a leadoff error and junior designated hitter Devin Daproza's (Englewood, N.J./Leonia) groundball found its way through the middle of the infield. After a pitching change, senior shortstop Dylan Santos (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) laced the first pitch he saw down the left-field line for a double, driving in Lauterhahn. Junior left fielder Stephen Kubis (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, tying the score, and after a Ty Kobylakiewicz (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) flyout moved to Santos to third, senior second baseman Angel Colon (Hawthorne, N.J./St. Joseph's Regional) sent him home with a base hit into right.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Santos finished 1-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored. Colon went 1-for-3 and drove in a runner.
  • Sophomore Daury Rodriguez (Weehawken, N.J./Cenapec) allowed two runs on four hits and two walks, striking out three over 3.0 innings.
  • Freshman JT DeRiso (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley) tossed 3.0 hitless innings, posting five strikeouts and a walk (1-0). Classmate JT Pugliese (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) twirled 2.0 shutout innings while recording a pair of strikeouts and one hit allowed.
  • Senior Nick Durso (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) picked up his second save of the year, recording two of the final three outs by strikeout.

UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson will host Scranton for a doubleheader Saturday, March 7, at 11:30 a.m.
