Baseball Bested on Senior Day by New Jersey City

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson baseball team (18-19, 2-14 NJAC) fell 5-3 to New Jersey City (12-23-1, 2-14 NJAC) in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) April 25 at Jeff Albies Field on senior day. 

The Pioneers recognized seniors Giovanni Aresta (Matawan, N.J./Old Bridge), Chase Geisler (Lodi, N.J./Lodi), Austin Jack (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Twp.), Connor Luckie (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton High West), Ian Metzger (Verona, N.J./Verona), Pat Pantoliano (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus), Tom Radigan (Verona, N.J./Verona), Braden Ramirez (Middlesex, N.J./Union Catholic), Tyler Ruban (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) and Neel Telidevara (Dayton, N.J./South Brunswick) following the game. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • NJCU plated a run in the first to take an early 1-0 advantage before extending the lead to two (2-0) with a run in the following frame.
  • In the fourth, Aresta launched a ball over the fence in left to trim the deficit to one (2-1).
  • The Pioneers loaded the bases in the fifth with no outs and despite grounding into a double play, a run crossed to even the score at 2-2.
  • The Gothic Knights retook the lead (3-2) in the seventh with a run.
  • William Paterson responded in the bottom half of the frame when Ramirez doubled and later scored on an RBI single to center by sophomore Ty Kobylakiewicz (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge).
  • NJCU crossed home twice in the top of the ninth and earned the 5-3 road win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Radigan batted 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored.
  • Aresta finished 3-for-4 at the plate and recorded his first home run of the season.
  • Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
  • Kobylakiewicz drove in a pair of runs.
  • Metzger allowed three earned runs in 6.1 innings of work while totaling three strikeouts.
UP NEXT:
  • The Pioneers will square off against Rutgers-Camden Saturday, April 26, in an NJAC road doubleheader slated for 11:30 a.m.
