Baseball Suffers 6-5 Loss at NJCU

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The William Paterson baseball team (18-18, 2-13 NJAC) suffered a 6-5 loss at New Jersey City (11-22-1, 2-13 NJAC) April 24.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior center fielder Braden Ramirez's (Middlesex, N.J./Union Catholic) solo homer handed the visiting Pioneers a 1-0 first-inning edge.
  • The Gothic Knights tied it up with a solo home run of their own during the bottom of the second inning.
  • A Ramirez double led to an RBI-single up the middle by sophomore first baseman Ty Kobylakiewicz (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) for a 2-1 score in the third.
  • WP made it 4-1 in the fourth with a home run by junior second baseman Angel Colon (Hawthorne, N.J./St. Joseph's Regional), a double by junior third baseman Julian Pinto (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) and a run-scoring single by sophomore designated hitter Devin Daproza (Englewood, N.J./Leonia).
  • Pinto's solo homer pushed it to a 5-1 Pioneer edge in the sixth.
  • Two walks and a pair of singles plated two NJCU runs during the home half of the seventh.
  • A three-run homer made it a 6-5 Gothic Knight lead in the eighth.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Pinto went 2-for-3 with a double, homer, RBI and two runs scored. Ramirez was 2-for-4 while adding a double, home run, RBI and two runs. Kobylakiewicz and Daproza each tallied a pair of hits.
  • Junior Jose Marte (Bogota, N.J./Bogota) worked the first 6.2 innings, allowing three runs, six hits and three walks with five strikeouts.
  • Junior Cole McGregor (British Columbia, Canada/Delta Secondary School) surrendered three hits and three runs, striking out one batter in 0.2 inning (0-2).
  • Senior Neel Telidevara (Dayton, N.J./South Brunswick) recorded the final two outs, scattering two hits and a walk while registering one strikeout.
