Baseball Drops NJAC Doubleheader to No. 11 Kean

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson baseball team (16-13, 1-9 NJAC) dropped both ends of a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) doubleheader to No. 11 Kean (25-5, 9-0 NJAC) April 13 at Jeff Albies Field. The Pioneers fell 8-0 in game one before being bested in game two, 7-2.

GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Kean got on the board first with a run in the fifth inning to grab a 1-0 advantage.
  • The Cougars tacked on four insurance runs in the sixth frame to extend the lead to five (5-0).
  • Kean added two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to make it an eight-run game (8-0).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Cougars went ahead by four (4-0) after plating four runs in the third inning.
  • In the fifth, Kean extended its advantage to six (6-0) with a pair of runs.
  • The Pioneers trimmed the deficit to five (6-1) in the sixth after senior Tom Radigan (Verona, N.J./Verona) hit a leadoff home run to right.  
  • Kean responded with a run in the seventh to go back ahead by six (7-1).
  • Back-to-back one-out walks put a pair of Pioneers on base in the bottom of the ninth when junior Thomas Jova (Gillette, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) hit an RBI single up the middle to make it 7-2.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior Dylan Santos (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) batted 2-for-3 with a run scored.
  • Jova finished 1-for-4 with an RBI.
  • Radigan recorded his third homer of the season.
UP NEXT:
  • The Pioneers will head to Patchogue, N.Y., Tuesday, April 15, for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference game at St. Joseph's Long Island.
