Baseball Shuts Out DeSales, 6-0

Six Pioneer Pitchers Combine for Eight-Hitter

WAYNE, N.J. – Six different Pioneer pitchers combined for the shutout as the William Paterson baseball team (15-6) defeated visiting DeSales (13-8), 6-0, April 1 at Jeff Albies Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior catcher Eliot Germanson (New York, N.Y./LaGuardia) sent a one-out pitch down the left-field line for a double, advanced to third on an Angel Colon (Hawthorne, N.J./St. Joseph's Regional) flyout and scored when sophomore second baseman Devin Daproza (Englewood, N.J./Leonia) dropped a base hit into shallow left-center field, giving the Pioneers a 1-0 lead during the home half of the second inning.
  • WP doubled its advantage in the third, thanks to a base hit up the middle and stolen base by junior designated hitter Jordan Brown (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway), a groundout and a bloop double into short right by junior third baseman Dylan Santos (Nutley, N.J./Nutley).
  • The Pioneers made it a 4-0 game in the fourth. Colon singled through the left side and Daproza sent a hit into left before senior first baseman Giovanni Aresta (Matawan, N.J./Old Bridge) drew a walk to load the bases with one out. A ground ball off the bat of freshman left fielder Sean Lauterhahn (Oradell, N.J./River Dell) scored one run, and a high throw on the double play attempt allowed a second runner to touch the plate.
  • A Brown leadoff hit, wild pitch and Santos RBI-single pushed the lead to 5-0 after five innings.
  • Santos doubled to left, then scored on a wild pitch and throwing error, making it a 6-0 margin in the seventh.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Santos went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a pair of RBI and a run scored.
  • Brown was 3-for-4, stole a base and scored twice, while Daproza finished 2-for-4 and added an RBI and run scored.
  • Junior Julian Salinas (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) scattered three hits and a walk over the first 3.0 innings, posting three strikeouts (1-2).
