Women's Basketball Earns 58-49 Home Win Versus Stockton

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (7-0, 3-0 NJAC) continued its season-opening win streak after securing a 58-49 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) win versus Stockton (4-3, 1-2 NJAC) Dec. 6 at the Sports and Recreation Center.    

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers built a double-digit advantage after outscoring the Ospreys, 25-13, over the opening 17:45 of action.
  • Stockton closed out the second quarter on a 6-0 run to trim the deficit to six (25-19).
  • WP went back ahead by double figures (35-25) with 4:56 on the clock in the third quarter, but a 15-7 Stockton run made it a two-point game (42-40) entering the final frame.
  • With sophomore Kaelyn Gowdy (Fultondale, Ala./Minor) leading the charge with seven points, the Pioneers opened the fourth quarter on a 9-2 run to extend the lead to nine (51-42).
  • Stockton countered with a 7-1 run, but WP held on for the 58-49 home win.  
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Senior Renee Wells (Leonardo, N.J./Middletown South) paced the Pioneers offensively with a game-high 21 points while adding five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
  • Gowdy finished with nine points on 4-of-6 (.667) shooting.
  • Junior Jada Jacobs (Mount Laurel, N.J./Medford Tech) went 3-for-5 (.600) from the floor with three rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists.
  • Graduate student Megan Sears (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) and senior Patty Walsh (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) logged seven points apiece.
  • Walsh added eight boards, two steals and two blocks to her stat line.
  • The Pioneers extended their season-opening win streak to seven.

  • William Paterson will square off against Rutgers-Newark Wednesday, Dec. 10, for a 6:00 p.m. conference game.
