EWING, N.J. – Behind a career scoring performance from senior
Renee Wells (Leonardo, N.J./Middletown South), the William Paterson women's basketball team (5-0, 1-0 NJAC) opened New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play with a 64-54 win at The College of New Jersey (0-6, 0-1 NJAC) Nov. 25.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Pioneers trailed by five (34-29) with 6:25 left in the third quarter before outscoring the Lions, 12-7, to even the score at 41-41 heading into the final frame.
- The two sides were even at 43-43 early in the fourth quarter until a trey by Wells sparked a 21-8 run that put the game away, allowing WP to capture the 64-54 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Wells recorded her first double-double of the season after scoring a career-high 35 points and reeling in a season-best 10 boards.
- She finished 16-of-17 (.941) from the foul line.
- It marked her first career 30-point performance.
- Junior Jada Jacobs (Mount Laurel, N.J./Medford Tech) tallied 10 points, six rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals.
- Graduate student Megan Sears (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) logged seven points and five rebounds.
- Senior Patty Walsh (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) recorded six points and nine boards.
- During the final 8:12 of action, the Pioneers shot a flawless 12-of-12 (1.000) from the charity stripe.
- The Pioneers picked up their first road win against TCNJ since Jan. 4, 2017.
