Women's Basketball Cruises to 83-61 Victory at John Jay

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Five Pioneers scored in double figures as the William Paterson women's basketball team (4-0) cruised to an 83-61 win at John Jay (0-5) Nov. 21.  

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • With junior Patty Walsh (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) leading the charge with nine points in the first quarter, the Pioneers grabbed a 10-point lead (20-10) after the first 10 minutes of action.
  • The Bloodhounds trimmed the deficit to eight (20-12) early in the second quarter before WP erupted for a 26-12 run to extend its advantage to 22 (46-24) with 1:17 on the clock.
  • The Pioneers continued to expand on their lead, using a 25-8 run in the third quarter to make it a 31-point game (73-42) with 1:14 remaining in the frame. During that stretch, WP shot 8-of-12 (.667) from the floor.
  • WP maintained its double-digit lead the rest of the way and secured the 83-61 road win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Walsh scored a game-high 21 points on 9-of-15 (.600) shooting with eight rebounds, three blocks and two assists.
  • It marked her first 20-point performance of the season.
  • Junior Jada Jacobs (Mount Laurel, N.J./Medford Tech) stuffed the stat sheet, finishing with a career-high 18 points and six assists while adding seven boards, seven steals and a block.
  • Graduate student Megan Sears (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) recorded her first collegiate double-double after totaling a season-high 11 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Senior Renee Wells (Leonardo, N.J./Middletown South) tallied 11 points, five rebounds, three assists, a block and a career-best six steals.
  • Sophomore Leilani Pinder (South Brunswick, N.J./South Brunswick) poured in a season-high 11 points on 5-of-7 (.714) shooting.
  • The Pioneers extended their win streak to four.

  • William Paterson heads to Ewing, N.J., Tuesday, Nov. 25, to open conference play against The College of New Jersey at 5:00 p.m.
