Volleyball Bests Montclair State in NJAC Tournament Quarterfinals, 3-1

WAYNE, N.J. – The fourth-seeded William Paterson volleyball team (18-11, 5-3 NJAC) defeated fifth-seeded Montclair State (26-5, 5-3), 3-1, in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament quarterfinals Nov. 11 at the Sports and Recreation Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • A 5-1 run by Montclair State trimmed the WP lead to three (18-15) in the opening set. However, the Pioneers responded with a 7-1 run to claim the 25-16 victory.
  • The two sides were even at 19-19 in the second set until WP outscored Montclair State, 6-1, the rest of the way to secure the 25-20 win.
  • A kill by junior Kristian Glenn (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) pulled the Pioneers within two (18-16) in the third set. WP and Montclair State traded points until the Red Hawks came out on top, 25-20.
  • The Pioneers trailed by three (16-13) in the fourth set. However, a 12-5 WP run capped by four straight kills by Glenn sealed the 25-21 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Glenn recorded a match-high 15 kills to pair with five blocks.
  • Freshman Riley Elliott (El Dorado Hills, Calif./Oak Ridge) finished with 12 kills, nine digs, three aces and a pair of assists.
  • Junior Cecilia Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) totaled nine kills and a season-best 20 digs.
  • Junior Sofia Zablackis (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) logged seven kills and a season-high eight blocks.
  • Junior Abby Houpt (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) notched 27 assists and 11 digs.
  • Junior Taylor Grady (Hillsdale, N.J./Pasack Valley) dished out 19 assists.
  • Sophomore Bella Demers (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee) had a match-high 27 digs.

  • William Paterson heads to Union, N.J., Thursday, Nov. 13, to take on top-seeded Kean in the NJAC Tournament semifinals at 7:00 p.m.
