WAYNE, N.J. – The fourth-seeded William Paterson volleyball team (19-12, 5-3 NJAC) fell, 3-0, to top-seeded Kean (28-5, 7-1 NJAC) in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament semifinals Nov. 13.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Pioneers held a three-point edge (9-6) in the first set following a Kean service error and back-to-back aces by sophomore Bella Demers (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee). Kean outscored WP, 16-6, the rest of the way to earn the 25-15 victory.
- Following a kill by freshman Riley Elliott (El Dorado Hills, Calif./Oak Ridge) in the second set, the Pioneers extended their lead to three (9-6). However, the Cougars responded with eight unanswered points and went on to secure the 25-18 win.
- Kean opened the third set on a 16-5 run and maintained its lead en route to claiming the 25-18 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Elliott posted a team-best nine kills.
- Junior Cecilia Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) chipped in with six kills and three digs.
- Junior Abby Houpt (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) dished out 15 assists, adding two aces.
- Demers had a team-high 12 digs.
