Volleyball Cruises to Home Win Against Hunter

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson volleyball team (17-10, 4-3 NJAC) cruised to a 3-0 home victory over Hunter (9-21, 4-2 NJAC) Nov. 1 at the Sports and Recreation Center.   

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers took a commanding 20-7 lead to open the first set before securing the 25-12 win.
  • WP held a four-point advantage (18-14) in the second set when a kill by junior Sofia Zablackis (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) sparked a 7-1 run that gave the Pioneers the 25-15 victory.
  • The Pioneers led by six (20-14) in the third set until the Hawks trimmed the deficit to three following three consecutive points. However, WP outscored Hunter, 5-2, the rest of the way to claim the 25-19 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior Cecilia Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) finished with a match-high 10 kills on 16 attacks for a .563 hitting percentage.
  • Freshman Riley Elliott (El Dorado Hills, Calif./Oak Ridge) totaled nine kills, four digs and two aces.
  • Zablackis had six kills and three blocks.
  • Junior Abby Houpt (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) notched 24 assists.
  • Sophomore Bella Demers (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee) tallied 11 digs.

  • William Paterson will wrap up New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 7:00 p.m. at Rutgers-Newark.
