Football Falls at No. 5 Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. – The William Paterson football team (2-6, 1-4 NJAC) fell 51-7 at No. 5 Salisbury (8-0, 5-0 NJAC) in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game Nov. 1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After winning the coin toss and electing to defer to the second half, the Seagulls received the ball to begin the game and returned the opening kick 70 yards for a touchdown to take an early 7-0 lead.
  • The Salisbury defense forced the Pioneers to punt and the Seagulls began their ensuing drive from their own 46-yard line. After a costly pass interference on the WP defense, Salisbury worked its way down the field and into the end zone to extend the lead to 14-0 with 10:31 on the clock.
  • The Pioneers had possession of the ball deep in their own territory and got to the Salisbury 35-yard line before an interception stopped the drive and gave the Seagulls the ball back. Salisbury needed just seven plays to drive 90 yards down the field and into the end zone to make it 21-0 with 12 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
  • A safety with 9:30 left to play in the second quarter made it a 23-point deficit for the Pioneers before the Seagulls tacked on two additional touchdowns in the half to go ahead by 37 (37-0).
  • Salisbury found paydirt on its first drive of the third quarter, scoring on an 18-yard rush to make it 44-0 with 10:12 on the clock.
  • The Seagulls pieced together another 90-yard scoring drive that began late in the third quarter and ended with 12:37 remaining in the game.
  • WP began a drive on its own 32-yard line and used nine plays before sophomore quarterback Christiano Pittman (Irvington, N.J./Irvington) delivered a 10-yard touchdown pass to freshman Hassan Moore (Carteret, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) to make it 51-7 with 1:06 left to play.
